Photo of the Week: Wedding Season

It’s wedding season as we speak but it’s a very different reality in 2020 for couples wanting to celebrate their love by getting married. Many the weddings planned in 2020 have been rescheduled to take place in 2021.

We know how hard that must have been for the thousands of love birds to change their special day, but we appreciated it. Though the government has postponed such gatherings to ensure the safety and health of all its’ citizens, District 12 Photographics still wants to help capture your special day.

Photo of the Week: Wedding Season is showcasing one of my favourite shots from a wedding that I shot many years ago.

As a matter of fact, this would be my first wedding I shot. Luckily, though it was my first wedding, it was for a friend, so it was an opportunity for me to learn and perfect the skills under less pressure. This doesn’t mean I didn’t feel pressure, but I felt that I could achieve what my client wanted knowing that we had many years of history together prior to their big day.

I captured a lot of lovely photos that the clients loved, but there were a couple that stood out to me.

Photographing in Medicine Hat, Alta., I was well aware of the areas of the city that would probably photographed. Medicine Hat was basically a second home for our family as we grew up. My parents best friends lived there, as well as my sisters. My aunt lived there as well, so we were often in the city.

We shot many locations around the city but our last stop was at Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park. I took the bride with me for a little personal photo shoot and this is where I got one my favourite images. Although posed, it looked beautifully candid. The lighting, colour tones and shadows were perfect. I edited the photo in post to be more of a sepia tone with her bouquet being the accent piece of the photograph.

What do you like or dislike about the photo? Do you wish I shot it in a different way? Would you change the composition? Share your comments and let me know your thoughts.
